JAM OF THE DAY

A Northern Soul Classic
This northern soul hit is for those of you are in the know. For those of you out there who don’t know what northern soul was and still is. Northern Soul is a music and dance movement that initially emerged from the British MOD scene, in northern England in the late 1960s. The genre specifically focused on soul music generated from the northern half of America. The recordings most prized by NS enthusiasts are usually by lesser-known artists, and were initially released only in limited numbers, often by small regional United States labels such as Ric-Tic and Golden World (Detroit), Mirwood (Los Angeles) and Shout and Okeh (New York/Chicago). Northern soul is also associated with particular dance styles and fashions. You can find northern soul parties particularly in NYC promoted by the Subway Soul Club which has listings of other genre specific parties around the try state area.
